Tom Serafini writes and illustrates fun, imaginative stories about Ollie Bug, five legged adventure spider and his friends in a faraway place called Moonwater Meadow. His stories encourage creativity and imagination in children and adults and fosters a love of reading, writing and dreaming.
Ollie’s stories have a positive message about hope, happiness, inclusivity and friendship. Tom’s illustrations combine inks and watercolors to create definition and character in the foreground while dazzling the eye with sumptuous washes of texture and color in the back.
Ollie, who could be called Tom’s alter ego, is a lovable child who dreams of wild adventures and fantastical inventions. Tom has been writing and illustrating Ollie’s life since the ancient time of 1987.
A Brooklyn native, he is a connoisseur of pizza, talks with a funny accent (how you doin?) and lives with his wife and sometimes co-author and a small crew of marauding cats.
He once tried to make a swimming pool in his parent’s bathroom by stopping the drains and opening the faucets. It didn’t work out well. He also tried hang gliding from a second story balcony using wings made from an umbrella. That didn’t work out well either.
