As you may know, I like to talk about the dreams (goals?) that live in the deepest parts of us.  Everyone has a dream whether it’s something you’ve always wanted to be or something you’ve just figured out.  The problem is most of us who are already fully engaged in life don’t know how to go from where we are to where we want to be.

There’s this amazing and powerful step required of everyone who wants something bigger and better.  I’m sure someone out there has figured out a way to sell you this wonderful step  too but don’t worry, this magic bean is totally free.

Before I tell you this magic secret I have to tell you there’s one key ingredient you need before you do anything else:

BELIEF

Just believe that what you want can be yours.  Have faith in the simple fact that your gut may be telling you that what you want is what you were always supposed to be.  Once you have that you can move on to the secret only the most successful people know.

AND IT’S FREE!

Are you ready?  Are you sitting?  Here’s the big secret:

Take just one step.

You’re sitting there confused, aren’t you?

That’s it.  Just one.  A little one in the direction of your deepest want.  It doesn’t matter if your deepest dream is to be a certain weight, have a certain amount of security or even be a professional circus clown.  Take one little step toward it.  Google something, ask a question, get a book (just one) about what you want to be/have/do.

When we think of a project we tend to think of all the parts happening at one time.  It can be daunting especially when that project is the course of our own lives.  Big dreams require big action but it only works if you do it in very small steps.

If you looked at everything you need to do as one big ball of NOW you may never get out of bed because there’s just so much to do.

I know what you’re thinking… it’s too much, there isn’t time, I can’t deal with it now,  I’m not a kid anymore and it’s unrealistic thinking.

It’s easier to say all that than it is to consider the alternative, that with a little discomfort and effort it may just be possible to set a new course for a life that’s more fulfilling.

That’s up to you.

I don’t know exactly what you want but I’d bet if you examined it close enough you’d find a way to get it even in the busy complicated life you have now.  They say it takes 10,000 hours to master something.  So of course that counts you out because really who has that kind of time?

Read it again.  10,000 hours to MASTER something, not get good at it. Some sources say it takes about 20 hours to attain reasonable competency.  Twenty hours to fan that little ember burning a hole in your unsatisfied soul.

My challenge for you this week is to acknowledge that little dream of yours. Make new friends with it and take a minute to see just how difficult it would be to start it.

Don’t just think it, do it.

START it. You don’t need to MASTER it.  I’d bet you it wouldn’t be as bad as you thought.

If you care to share, tell me what you magic IT is.  I have a few.  Maybe in the coming weeks we can work on how to grab it.

Success is the freedom to live the life you want to live.  Well you can’t get there unless you break your trip into small manageable steps.

Think big, start small.  Just start.
